Qasr Al Muwaiji fort and the date palm trees that surround it

Incredible historic sites

Al Ain is scattered with staggering historical structures, with Al Jahili Fort among its most impressive. One of the largest forts in the UAE, this stunning landmark was constructed using sun-dried mud brick in the 19th century. The fort is a signpost of Al Ain’s importance in the nation’s history – as is the equally magnificent Qasr Al Muwaiji fort, the birthplace of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the late President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.

Breathtaking nature

Perhaps the most famous of Al Ain’s attractions is the lush oasis that earns it the nickname ‘Garden City’ and UNESCO World Heritage status. Al Ain Oasis is a beautiful expanse of date palm trees – over 140,000 – supported by an ancient irrigation system known as falaj. Its shaded pathways make for an unforgettable stroll or a leisurely bike ride, providing a tranquil escape into nature in the heart of the city.

Spectacular views

While Al Ain itself is a picturesque city, with its majestic forts and beautiful oases, it is surrounded by one of the most scenic regions in the UAE. South of the city is a glorious mountainous landscape, crowned by Jebel Hafeet, a colossal mountain on the border with Oman. There are countless photo opportunities with this skyline-dominating peak, especially during the fiery orange glow of sunset.
