Yes, you can go to the Dubai desert on your own - but you should prepare carefully given the intense heat, challenging terrain and isolated location.
You’ll need a 4x4 vehicle to navigate the desert sands effectively. You should bring extensive water supplies and emergency equipment, and keep someone informed of your planned route and return time.
We would recommend booking a desert tour for peace of mind. At Arabian Adventures, you’ll enjoy a transfer to and from the desert as well as guidance from our local experts when you’re exploring this spectacular landscape.
The desert in Dubai can feel slightly cooler than the city due to lower humidity and a lack of buildings, which trap heat.
The desert is still hot and sunny all year round, though, so you’ll need to wear suitable clothing to remain comfortable if you’re heading out on a desert adventure.
Temperatures can drop at night, falling to as low as 15°C in the peak of winter in January.
However, from June to August, it can remain above 30°C even after the sun goes down – so while the desert may feel marginally cooler than the city, it is still exceptionally hot, particularly in summer.
The Dubai desert is renowned for its rolling red sand dunes, mesmerising sunsets and many unique experiences.
Its vast, untouched landscape makes for magical photo opportunities, and it has fascinating native wildlife like the Arabian oryx. It also plays host to fantastic traditional Bedouin-style entertainment and cuisine.
The Dubai desert poses a beautiful, serene contrast to the city and we’re proud to offer a variety of excursions and adventures to this magnificent natural wonder.
